Good Form Running
is taught throughout the country in over 25 running specialty stores who pride themselves on being not only a source of products, but also the hub of running in their local communities. GFR practices four steps to help correct and improve running… and they are proven to work!
1. Posture – Maintaining good posture where proper core and back alignment is emphasized
2. Midfoot Strike – Whether you are running barefoot or in a shoe, good form running can be performed by finding the midfoot strike or a shoe that encourages this more neutral foot position.
3. Cadence – A proper cadence is around 180 steps per minute. A higher candence can help conserve energy and also reduce over-striding. This tempo helps you run lighter, prevent injury and be more efficient. To find your tempo, you can count your right foot strikes for 30 seconds then, multiply by 4.
4. Forward Lean – With this last step, the runner gets to work with gravity. As the runner leans forward, gravity causes the body to fall and the foot automatically steps in the direction of movement which results in less muscle strain in the legs.
